The adventures of a toddler in a mud volcano
Me and my daughter share several traits. We both are obsessed about chocolate. We both sleep with our arms above our heads. We both also have a tendency to overcommit.
Now, overcommitting isn't always a bad thing. I've had many interesting experiences through just saying yes to many things and overfilling my schedule. I've got far by saying I'll do stuff I thought was a good idea at the time, even if it has felt like a very bad idea late at night working towards an impossible deadline. I've been scared, stressed, elated, overjoyed, and most of all, done stuff, learned and lived and grown through achieving things I didn't know I could at first.
When we were invited to play with a mud volcano at an event hosted by Persil for their 'Dirt is good' campaign and the launch of their Wild Explorers app, I imagined us to be in for a mucky pup and a few rounds of laundry. What I didn't quite imagine is what happened at the end... My daughter truly shares my trait of overcommitting to things!
She enjoyed splashing about, running after mummy and daddy with her muddy hands and splashing and squelching in the mud some more. And as we were catching up with some of the hosts she got some other ideas... This is what I mean by overcommitting!
Apparently it felt like a shower, nice, but slimy. When we asked why she put her head in the mud, she replied "Because I put my head in the mud". I suppose just wanting to know what will happen is as good a reason as any. And I suppose you learn by doing, and she certainly learned something.
When we got back home we had the following conversation:
"Did you like playing in the mud?"
"Yes.""Did you like playing in the mud?"
"Do you want to play with mud again?"
"No."
(Thank God!)

That is brilliant! I was really chuckling over those last few photos and the look on your daughter's face in the final one. Definitely enjoying that mud volcano there (but yes, glad to hear that she doesn't want to do it again!) :-) #CountryKids

ReplyDeleteIt was a fun event - although we missed out on all the other activities as she got so caked in mud, we just had to go home straight after :D
DeleteI can imagine my three now. The eldest would just look or poke her finger in, the next slightly more inquisitive and the youngest would have got in. Looks like a lot of fun x
ReplyDeleteMy little one is usually actually like your eldest - she is a little princess who definitely does not want to get her pretty clothes in mud. But I think she got a bit overexcited with all the other kids playing with it :D

That's a brilliant answer to the question! Looks like great fun for the kids, not so sure I'd like the clean up though!
ReplyDeleteYeah... I didn't like the clean up either ha ha! Took three washes and a few showers :D And LOTS of conditioner to get the "mud" out of her hair :)
DeleteWell you can't say she didn't do Persil proud! I'm assuming the Persil washing powder worked a treat on the clothes, I hope they gave you some of their shampoo for hair washing too! Great photos and a fun looking day. Definitely the prize for most engaged participant!

Ha ha yeah they gave us some Persil washing liquid to take home, and yes, it did work! Although the mud was so sticky I had to put one wash through twice :D It was such fun, even if I was cursing under my breath when I saw what she was doing... Thanks for hosting!
