Baby OOTD #7 - Made by Mummy
16 years ago a teenage girl was stressing over a certain piece of textiles coursework. It had to be a piece of clothing for a baby. Something small, something cute, but not too small the teacher said, as it makes it more fiddly to complete. Better go with a pattern for an older baby, the teacher recommended.
A dress for a toddler, the girl thought, that'll be fine. I'll get an A* too if it includes something technical, like embroidery and ruffles, she planned.
The fabric was a bit off, not quite the pink she wanted, and the embroidery thread didn't quite match, but you've just got to do with what you've got she thought. The ruffles were difficult, they kept on coming on uneven, and you had to be so careful with the thread, but finally, after hours of fiddling, it was OK. Carefully cutting the button holes, and carefully hand-stitching the hem, just like the teacher liked it. The stitching didn't quite work the way she hoped, you could still see the stitches, and she knew she would be marked down for that, but time was running out and the submission date was coming closer and closer. And submitted it was, as the way it was, not quite perfect, but as close as it could be.
Did she get that A*? This happened such a long time ago the girl doesn't really remember anymore. But she does remember the dress was displayed in the glass cabinet with other good pieces of coursework, all pretty, all proud.
And now, 16 years after, the daughter of that girl wears the dress.

It is, I am not a very crafty person anymore, but it is nice that she gets to wear something I have made :)
Deletewow, this actually brought a tear to my eye. That's so lovely that you made this dress all those years ago. It was like it was meant to be for your little girl one day. #StyleBaby

Thanks for the lovely comment :) I am so glad I saved it, and that I was still able to find it after so many years - it was at my parents attic, just waiting for the right moment :)

ReplyDeleteThanks :) Even now when I look at it, I think it was a pretty decent looking dress. I'll have to dress her in it more often, maybe with tights and cardi now during autumn :)
