Toddler OOTD #37 - Our Marimekko girl
Now who could resist a bit of colour in spring time? Or rather, a lot of colour!
I love Marimekko clothes for kids - they are so bright, so fun, so childlike. They are just utterly gorgeous. And being a Finn myself, I love supporting Finnish brands, both big (such as Marimekko) and small.I love having my girl flying her half-Finnish heritage flag out there, be that by talking in the language or wearing the design.
We had a bit of a mishap with the shirt though when she got hold of a big black Sharpie... Ending with a splodge of black Sharpie on her brand new utterly gorgeous pink shirt. Thankfully we didn't end up with a big black scribble on her front as I managed to grab it off her before it went too far. But nonetheless, it got her.
After lots of wet wiping, consequent Vanish soaks and washes, some rubbing with a vinegar/stain remover solution, and even a bit of a try with surgical spirit before another Vanish wash the black splodge became a faded light blue splodge. Still there, still mocking me every time she wears the shirt, but I remain hopeful that over time it will fade... Well. You can always hope. Ha ha. We shall see who will get the last laugh. (It'll probably be that damn Sharpie though)
In times like this I always try to remind myself that this is a prime example of a First World problem if there ever was one!

She is such a blogger baby in these pictures by the way - coming back from a book launch holding her bloggers goody bag, and clutching her My Carry Potty, another blogging goody bag gift. We were waiting for the train and of the joy on her face when it finally arrived!

I love Marimekko prints, I did a screenprinting course last year and that got me into them. I love colourful clothes, I hate young children wearing plain, dark coats or jackets
ReplyDeleteThey are truly gorgeous and we have a fair few items from Marimekko - some are not quite as colourful though :) I really like colours on kid too, they look so jolly (although we do sometimes use dark blue too!).
DeleteI do love the print of her coat, its very adorable and has an Elmer Elephant feel about it too! Thank you for sharing #WeekendTotStyle
ReplyDeleteThank you! I didn't even think of Elmer the Elephant, but now that you mention it, yes, it does bare a striking resemblance to him :)
DeleteOh I love all the colours, that coat is amazing. I love colourful clothes on kids, although I am also fond of monochrome every now and then.x #funkykidfriday #weekendtotstyle
ReplyDeleteWe do a bit of monochrome sometimes too! But overall I think most of her clothes are quite colourful, just has happened that way I suppose :) and mostly it seems to be pink too ha ha :)
DeleteWhat a cool coat, it reminds me of Elmer the Elephant! I've never heard of that brand so I will definitely check it out :) #weekendtotstyle
ReplyDeleteMarimekko do such lovely stuff, definitely worth checking them out :) funny that I didn't even think of Elmer the Elephant but it does resemble it a lot doesn't it!
DeleteI will definitely have to check out that brand! I absolutely love the whole outfit! The bright colours on the coat and top and so fab and look great in the sunshine. I love hearing other people's brand recommendations, especially international ones. Thank you so much for linking up with us and hope you've had a great weekend :) #weekendtotstyle
ReplyDeleteI do love this coat, and it has even got some spontaneous compliments from strangers :) Scandinavia has lots of kids wear brands that are quite popular at the moment - my favourite is Marimekko but there are lots other fab ones too, such a good international selection!
DeleteThat jacket is AMAZING!!! It looks like Elmer!!! So many gorgeous bright colours in this outfit!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to #FunkyKidFriday xx
Ha ha yeah it probably has all the colour under the sun in this one :) I do like it though, although I usually go for clothes that are a bit preppy for her :) thanks for hosting!
DeleteLoving the jacket! Would match M's brothers pram perfectly! Always love bright colours on children.
ReplyDeleteBright colours do look lovely on kids - and ooh, is it a Cosatto pram? I've been thinking this jacket is a match made in heaven with their Pixel pattern :)
DeleteThat jacket is amazing! We have had a few Marimekko bits for Finn and the quality is amazing! I love Scandinavian colour and design
ReplyDeleteThere are some wonderful Scandinavian brands out there, of which Marimekko is one. I've been happy with their product quality too, like this t shirt looks practically new still an it has been washed loads!
DeleteI love her jacket! I've never heard of Marimekko before - I'll definitely have to have a look. And that is very sad about the sharpie - we've not had any real disasters clothes wise yet but I'm sure it will happen sooner or later. #FunkyKidFriday
ReplyDeleteI was so gutted with the sharpie accident... It has faded since, but there still is a mark. Though probably (I hope) not immediately obvious unless you know where to look :D
DeleteI should do a post about my favourite Scandinavian kids wear brands sometimes, there are loads of gorgeous ones I think people would love to hear about :)
That jacket is flipping AMAZING. You should totally sell it to me when you're done with it...
ReplyDeleteHa ha I'll consider it... :)
