What did I think of the Chestertons Polo in the Park with kids

Chestertons Polo is back 2022! 

We went to the Family Day at Chestertons Polo in the Park in 2019. This event happens every June at the beginning of the month. The last day of the three day polo event is the "family day" and is suitable for kids, with kids activities and a more relaxed atmosphere. Overall, fantastic day for families - I went there with my six year old. And of course, you don't have to take the kids, there were plenty of adult only parties too! 

I've always wanted to go see polo. It looked interesting and it is one of those quintessentially English things I have wanted to try, but I had never been to see a polo match. In addition to that, I figured it might be a while as it's not really suitable for kids and those mini-mes are hard to shake off I tell you. 

Until I was invited to a family day at the Chestertons Polo in the Park, I didn't think kids could have fun at an event like this!

I found Chestertons Polo in the Park worked well for families because:

• The polo is played with easier to understand rules, and is a quicker game than your normal polo. The rules are also explained and the commentary during the day was helpful in learning about polo. My six year old was getting really into the game. 
• There were lots of kids activities, both before and during the polo games. And all free. This included party games, bouncy castles, face paint and crafts, although there were long queues for the most popular activities. 
• Food is plentiful and lots of variety, and covers the usual pizzas and burgers and fish and chips so even the pickiest eaters will find something.
• Overall there was a good decking, so easy to walk and easy to push a pram. 
• Under 10s go free!

Kids activities were great. Before the polo game starts kids get to play at the pitch, with Sharky and George children's party organisers who are high-energy kids play leaders. There was bouncy ball horse races, water gun fights, and so on. This could get quite hectic, so thankfully the pitch exits were guarded and no kids were allowed to leave without an adult. During breaks kids could go on the pitch again - and you could go and see a horse and talk to a polo player at one break. There was also a kids play area with bouncy castle, face painting and crafting, all free activities, but with long queues for some.

The event can get very busy, so I found the queues for food were very busy at the central area, but if you walked to stalls further away you got food quickly. I didn't drink as I was with the kiddo, but cocktails looked amazing and there were plenty of places to have a Pimm's or even an adult ice lolly. 

Overall, a fun day! That said, the day is quite long for the youngest of kids, so we left before the final match. With slightly older children you might be able to enjoy the day all the way to the end. And as we left, all kids got a small goody bag to take home, with colouring pens and sheets, and a ball and some badges - my daughter was very happy.
